Whitley Award winner becomes Belizean Minister

 

2012 Whitley Award winner, Lisel Alamilla, of Belize has been named as her Country’s new Minister of Forestry, Fisheries, and Sustainable Development.

As a result, Lisel has left her post as Executive Director of Ya’axché Conservation Trust, her former NGO. The £30,000 prize money that comes with her Whitley Award will go to Ya’axché to ensure the continuation of her successful work to unite stakeholders at all levels in Southern Belize to conserve the Country’s Maya Golden Landscape.
