2006 Whitley Award winner, Suprabha “Supi” Seshan, has had an article, commenting on the Western Ghats receiving “World Heritage Site” status, published in the Hindustan Times, one of the most widely circulated dailies in India.
Supi’s article, which can be read here, explains how the Western Ghat’s World Heritage Site status does not mean that the region’s wild places are in pristine condition, and warns that labels do not in themselves represent conservation success.
