Whitley Awards Week 2017 Timetable

The Whitley Awards week is packed with events from the day our finalists arrive until we wave them goodbye. During their trip to London, they have the opportunity to meet WFN Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, network with the other finalists, attend receptions with leading conservation organisations and academics, meet Whitley Fund for Nature donors and participate in professional communication and media training.

Monday 15th May – Interviews with the WFN Judging Panel to determine the winners; Friends Reception where the winners are introduced to the supporters of WFN whose donations are so vital to our work – find out more about becoming a Friend of WFN here

Tuesday 16th May – Media training in print, radio and TV sponsored by HSBC; NGO reception where winners are introduced to UK based NGOs, fostering ongoing collaboration and knowledge sharing

Wednesday 17th May – Press conference; Media interviews; Visiting collaborators; Fun group activity in London

Thursday 18th May – Professional speech training; Rehearsals; Whitley Awards Ceremony hosted by Tom Heap and attended by over 500 guests where the winners’ films, narrated by Sir David Attenborough are premiered and HRH The Princess Royal presents the awards to our winners, the Ceremony is followed by supper where donors have the chance to meet and talk to the winners first hand

Friday 19th May – Contract signing; As an added bonus of winning an award, the winners receive pro-bono legal advice via the Thomson Reuters Foundation; Farewell lunch and frisbee in the park; Winners return to their home countries to carry out their work, joining a network of 185 Whitley Award winners around the world
