HRH The Princess Royal visits Winner

This was our Patron, HRH The Princess Royal’s, third visit to China which showcased modern Britain and the UK’s strength in sport, education, research and environmental protection.

HRH The Princess Royal travelled to Wuhan to visit the Institute of Hydrobiology to see the conservation efforts for the endangered finless porpoise. In 2006, Dr. Xianfeng Zhang was granted an Associate Award by the Whitley Fund for Nature to prevent the extinction of the critically endangered Baiji river dolphin and finless porpoise by launching a targeted educational campaign to improve fishing practices.

Over a decade on, the project, which is part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been playing the role of the main scientific supporting body of the conservation work of the porpoise, not only providing scientific research results, but also leading protection practices.
