Thank you for your support!

Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate the winners of the 2020 Whitley Awards.

Here at WFN we’d like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who helped us celebrate the winners of the 2020 Whitley Awards. Our announcement on 29th April reached audiences around the world thanks to your support, garnering well-deserved recognition for the new winners and their work.

The winners have been featured in The Guardian, BBC online, and on national news outlets in their home countries. The reception on social media was exceptional, and your many congratulatory messages for the winners were greatly appreciated.

We are also delighted to share a message of support from WFN Trustee, Sir David Attenborough:

As a Trustee of WFN I would like to pass my congratulations to the 2020 Whitley Award winners. The winners’ commitment to protecting threatened wildlife through community programmes provides hope for the future of our planet in what has been an unprecedented year and we welcome them to our global network of Whitley alumni.”

The 2020 Whitley Award winners

This year, Brazilian conservationist Patrícia Medici received the 2020 Whitley Gold Award for her life-long dedication to protecting South America’s largest land mammal, the lowland tapir, using it as a flagship for habitat preservation. Winning her Whitley Award in 2008, Patrícia is a world expert in the science of tapir conservation, and with her Gold Award, she’ll expand her work to the Amazon at a time when this ecosystem is facing accelerated deforestation.

Finally, thank you to our Awards Week Partner, Earlymarket LLP, to our Whitley Award and major donors, and to all of WFN’s Friends – we’re so grateful for your enduring support during this most challenging time. Thanks also to Interconnect-IT, whose pro-bono support of our website has helped us to tell the winners’ stories online.
