The 2014 Whitley Awards Ceremony – the 21st – was held on the 8th of May at The Royal Geographical Society in London. The Ceremony was hosted by Kate Humble with the Whitley Awards presented to the winners by WFN Patron, HRH The Princess Royal.

The winners were:

Winner of the Whitley Gold Award donated by The Friends and The Scottish Friends of The Whitley Fund for Nature, Jean Wiener, Haiti – Conserving Haiti’s coastal ecosystems and securing its first marine protected areas

Winner of the Whitley Award donated by The William Brake Charitable Trust in memory of William Brake, Luis Torres, Cuba – Building a national movement to protect Cuba’s amazing plant life

Winner of the Whitley Award donated by Fondation Segré, Stoycho Stoychev, Bulgaria – The Imperial eagle as a flagship for conserving the wild grasslands of south-eastern Bulgaria

Winner of the Whitley Award donated by WWF-UK, Tess Gatan Balbas, Philippines – Taking local action to save the World’s rarest crocodile

Winner of the Whitley Award donated by The LJC Fund in memory of Anthea and Lindsey Turner, Paula Kahumbu, Kenya – Hands Off Our Elephants: Delivering African leadership to address Kenya’s poaching crisis

Winner of the Whitley Award donated by The Shears Foundation, Fitry Pakiding, Indonesia – Uniting coastal communities to secure the last stronghold of Pacific leatherback turtles in the Bird’s Head Seascape, West Papua, Indonesia
