A recap of our winter event for young people who are passionate about the planet
We kicked off December with a special end of year comedy event for our WFN NextGen youth engagement and fundraising initiative.
Our ‘Go Wild With Laughter’ Wildlife & Comedy Quiz night saw an evening of nature-themed trivia featuring displays from the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards and emceed by comedian and environmentalist, Ryan Dalton.
And the winner is…
With seven teams going head-to-head, there was strong competition for the group with the most nature knowledge. Ultimately, Team Polar Bear was crowned champion!
They went home with tickets to the Whitley Award Ceremony and bottles of Bailey’s, kindly donated by NextGen Committee member Victoria Bodeker.
“You don’t know the name for a group of Pandas? – What an ’embarrassment’!”
We would like to thank our official events partner, Urban Greens for hosting the quiz and for providing delicious vegan salads, Endangered Brewing for the wonderful drinks, and our NextGen Committee for their work in organising the event — with special thanks to Biddy Briggs, for writing our quiz questions!

This month WFN also launched the NextGen newsletter. The newsletter provides quarterly updates on events and opportunities, inspiring conservation stories from the field, and the chance to stay connected to a network of likeminded young people. You can sign up for our newsletter here.
What is WFN NextGen?
NextGen is a WFN programme with two main goals. The first is to build a network and community of young people who are passionate about conservation. By hosting events like the comedy quiz, NextGen aims to bring likeminded people together to learn and talk about environmental issues, solutions, and successes.
The second goal is to channel the energy and enthusiasm of young people into raising funds for the grassroots initiatives of Whitley Award winners around the world.
One million species are threatened by extinction, yet only 4% of UK philanthropic giving is directed to the environment. Through fundraising challenges and events, NextGen hopes to leverage the enthusiasm of our network to collectively fundraise and help close this wildlife conservation funding gap.
Steered by an international, cross-sector, youth committee, WFN NextGen will support young fundraisers to achieve their goals through events and challenges, with a target to raise £10,000 a year for conservation.
