WFN NextGen: Conservation heroes inspire youth action

Drawing on themes of passion, leadership, and persistence, the evening consisted of a conversation between Whitley Gold Award winners Patrícia Medici and Angela Maldonado, moderated by acclaimed young environmental activist and author, Bella Lack.

Patrícia shared her vital work with the Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative, emphasizing the critical need to control the damage already done to Brazil’s forests, while Angela inspired attendees with her dedication as the leader of Fundación Entropika, tackling the illegal wildlife trade in the Amazon.

Bella guided conversation informed by her own insights on youth-led conservation, her presence underscoring the event’s core message: empowering young people to take bold steps for the planet — a sentiment reflected in a closing speech from WFN founder, Edward Whitley.

An interactive Q&A session was a highlight of the evening, offering attendees the chance to engage directly with Patrícia, Angela, and Bella. They shared valuable advice on building meaningful careers in conservation, overcoming challenges, and leveraging opportunities to make an impact.

As WFN’s youth engagement and fundraising initiative, NextGen brings together young people who are passionate about wildlife conservation, channelling their energy and enthusiasm into raising funds for the grassroots initiatives of Whitley Award winners around the world.

NextGen extends its heartfelt gratitude to Patrícia, Angela, Bella, and the attendees whose energy and curiosity made the evening a success. Let’s continue to inspire and empower the next generation of conservationists!
