Continuation Funding

scaling up success

Follow-on grants help Whitley Award alumni bring effective conservation solutions to scale.

As part of our Continuation Funding programme we support nature-based solutions to climate change. These locally-led projects jointly address biodiversity loss, landscape degradation and global warming, recognising the need for holistic action.

Meet the 2023 Continuation Funding winners

Following the submission of concept notes, grants are applied for on a competitive basis each year. Over half of all previous Whitley Award winners have gone on to win Continuation Funding: our commitment to the most effective conservation leaders is long-term.

Scientific rigour remains a mainstay of selection, but winners are also encouraged to aim high and take calculated risks. Proposals are assessed by a panel of experts who generously donate their time to identify the most compelling projects.

Long term relationships

Continuation Funding – which is greater in value and over a longer time period than the Whitley Award – is given to some of the most influential conservationists in their field, contributing measurable impact at both the grassroots and global level.

However, demand for follow-on funding far outstrips resource – we want to change this! We welcome further donations to our Continuation Funding programme: if you would like to find out more, please contact WFN’s Head of Partnerships, Georgie White: [email protected]
