ALL DONATIONS DOUBLED WITH BIG GIVE’S CHRISTMAS CHALLENGE

From 2 - 9 December, every donation through Big Give's Christmas Challenge will be matched, doubling its impact.

The Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest collaborative fundraising campaign. During this period, your donation has the power to be doubled enabling an even bigger difference for both wildlife and people.

We have set our goal of £100,000 for our Continuation Funding programme to provide follow-on grants to our global network of Whitley Award winners.

For 32 years, we have channelled funding to local leaders who are running effective conservation projects in countries experiencing the greatest biodiversity loss. Together, we support work rooted in communities that is restoring landscapes, protecting wildlife, and supporting stable climate systems, all using a socially-just approach.

Donate before 12pm (BST) 9 December to double your support for conservation leaders scaling locally-led conservation solutions.

GROWING NEED

At a critical time for nature, the need to support grassroots conservation has never been greater.

Humanity is facing unprecedented loss of species, accelerating climate change, and large-scale habitat destruction. Human activity has severely altered 75% of terrestrial and 66% of marine environments, and 1 million species are at risk of extinction. The impact of this is devastating, and yet, philanthropic funding is not moving fast enough to rise to the challenge.

We have seen first-hand the growing demand for conservation funding. Our 2026 Whitley Awards received a record 270 applications – up 127% from the previous year. We’ve also received requests from alumni totalling £3.6 million for Continuation Funding projects, whilst we have available funds to support around one third of that.

YOUR IMPACT

Every donation, no matter the size, supports impactful efforts to safeguard our planet. These are just a few examples of what different levels of support can help make possible through the work of conservation leaders:

  • £50 can provide and monitor a nest box, creating a safe breeding site for Nepal’s threatened owls.
  • £100 can install a light-deterrent system that helps prevent conflict between rural communities and jaguars in Brazil.
  • £1,000 can construct a canopy bridge in the Brazilian Amazon, giving wildlife a safe route across dangerous roads and reducing vehicle collisions.
  • £5,000 can support 25 Community Rangers to monitor and protect the wetland habitat of the Grey Crowned Crane in Rwanda for one year.
  • £10,000 can tag and monitor 20 loggerhead turtles in São Tomé and Príncipe, generating vital data to protect their migration routes and nesting beaches.

Whether through Big Give’s Christmas challenge, online donations, or joining WFN as a Major Donor, together, we can continue backing the people and solutions our planet needs most.
