Ali Nawaz recognised by Pakistan’s Government

At the beginning of June, The Ministry of Climate Change in Pakistan (MoCC) commemorated the achievement of Muhammad Ali Nawaz on receiving his 2016 Whitley Award for his efforts to protect the endangered snow leopard in the mountains of northern Pakistan.

“The efforts of Mr. Ali Nawaz are exemplary to save the endangered species in Pakistan. He has made the whole Pakistani nation proud by bringing this [Award] to Pakistan”, said the Federal Minister for Climate Change, Zahid Hamid. “The majestic Snow Leopard is, no doubt, a symbol of pride for its range states, including Pakistan”.

The Minister who is also Co-Chair of the GSLEP (Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Program) Steering Committee presented an appreciation award to Muhammad Ali Nawaz. Syed Abu Ahmad Akif, Secretary Ministry of Climate Change was also present at the ceremony, attended by representatives of foreign embassies in Pakistan, academic researchers, partner organizations, NGOs, journalists and senior government officials.
